How HP 250 G7 can be the best core i5 laptop deal for you?

HP 250 G7 notebook is another affordable model form HP’s 250 series. The devices in this line are budget-friendly, fit the bill and have no frills, unlike the EliteBook or ProBook series. The same can be said for HP 250 G7 laptop, which is a suitable option for those on a budget. But is HP 250 G7 the best core i5 laptop deal for you? Well, you are going to find out after reading this review.

HP 250 G7 notebook is available in several configurations from Celerons to Pentiums and Core i3 to Core i7 processor. Here, we are going to talk about the features and performance of the Core i5 variant. We have kept in mind the price factor while reviewing the HP 250 G7 laptop, so expect a truthful assessment.

Since it is a budget laptop, HP has cut some corners to lower the price. We have evaluated the design, display, keyboard functionality and performance of HP 250 G7 laptop to see where HP has made compromises.

Specs sheet

  • Processor: Intel Core i5-1035G1 Quad-core / 1.00 GHz Max. Turbo Boost 3.60GHz
  • RAM: 8GB Storage: 256GB SSD
  • Display: 15.6-inch HD (1366 x 768) Resolution
  • Graphics: Intel UHD Integrated
  • Battery: 41Wh
  • Weight: Around 3.92lbs (1.78kg)
  • Operating System: Windows 10 Pro (64-bit)

On paper, HP 250 G7 appears to be the best core i5 laptop deal. This is an incredible combination of specs which put the 250 G7 among the best Core i5 laptops. This is one of the most affordable business laptops that has enough firepower to handle your everyday tasks.

Design and Build

At a glance, HP 250 G7 notebook looks like its predecessor the 255 G6. However, there are some minor improvements that HP has made in the newer model. Unlike its predecessor, the 250 G7 has an equal distribution of ports on both sides. The fan vents have moved from the side and the battery is no longer removable.

Coming to its design and build, the body of HP 250 G7 laptop is made of plastic. The model we evaluated for this review came in black colour and looked nice. However, we found it super susceptible to scratches, so you can imagine how your 250 G7 is going to look like after a year or two.

Upon lifting the lid, you will see that HP has opted for the old-fashion wide bezels. Overall, this is a sturdy laptop despite its plastic body that can handle everyday knocks and bumps. HP 250 G7 weighs around 3.92lbs (1.78kg) with a thick profile of 22.5mm.

Display performance of HP 250 G7

The display is the weak spot of HP 250 G7 notebook as it has the same TN panel which we have seen on the 250 G6 models. This is a 15.6-inch wide HD display that comes with a screen resolution of 1366 x 768p. Although this is a basic panel which lacks certain image quality benchmarks, it is good for data-packed applications.

Keyboard functionality

The keyboard on HP 250 G7 laptop is a mix of joy and sadness. Hp has included a full-sized number pad, but sadly this is not a backlit keyboard. We found the keys a little bit smaller, however, HP has made up for this by updating the printed symbols.

There is a whole row of function keys, but HP has cut their sizes into half. Overall, this is a good keyboard with appropriate keys and rather long travel with nice tactile feedback.

Touchpad

The touchpad on this Core i5 laptop is a classic trackpad with two dedicated mouse buttons. We found it somewhat short in size, but it has enough space to perform multi-finger gestures. Hp could have done better by opting for an integrated button to increase the surface area.

Connectivity on HP 250 G7 notebook

Thanks to HP’s decision of moving the fan vents from the side, the 250 G7 has better port distribution. The port selection is the same as of its predecessor model which is the modest side. On the right edge, there is a Type-A USB 2.0 port, an SD card reader, and a DVD optical drive.

On its left side, the HP 250 G7 houses two Type-A USB 3.1 (Gen. 1) ports. Additionally, there is an HDMI 1.4b output, an RJ-45 Ethernet connection, the charging plug, and a 3.5mm audio jack. Unfortunately, there is no Type-C or Thunderbolt connect which might irritate if your work involves frequent data transfer.

Performance

HP 250 G7 is a great Core i5 laptop when it comes specs combination and performance. It offers a base clock speed of 1.00GHz and could deliver a maximum speed of 3.6GHz. Hp has loaded the 250 G7 with an 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD storage and integrated UHD graphics.

When it comes to performance, HP 250 G7 delivers the best out of its specs. We opened a dozen Chrome tabs and ran multiple office programs to test its performance. We found it fully capable of tasks such as word processing, data analysis and other business-related software. However, the modest TN panel along with a low 1366 x 768p screen resolution affects its performance.

Simply put, HP 250 G7 laptop is one of the best Core i5 laptops for office and business use. But its feeble display is not capable of running modern games or heavy media editing tools.

Battery life

The battery on this Core i5 laptop is 41Whw which is attached to its body. HP claims that the battery of 250 G7 can deliver a usage time of up to 12 hours. Well, we all know this is not going to happen, right? In our battery test, the notebook delivered a battery life of more than 9 hours on a single charge.

Verdict: Is HP 250 G7 the best core i5 laptop?

If you look at its specs and consider the price tag, HP 250 G7 lives up to the expectations. This is a budget Core i5 laptop with satisfactory hardware that delivers a solid performance.
