  • Operating System: Windows 10 Home

Now, let’s what ASUS Vivobook S432 has to offer as a good Core i5 laptop. We will be reviewing its overall performance, durability, and battery performance in the real world.

Design

ASUS Vivobook S14 S432FL has a metal plus plastic body, which not only secures the hardware but also lessen the overall weight of the device. Its lid is made of aluminium sheet, while the rest of its chassis is made of plastic. It comes in a Silver matte finish design that prevents fingerprints and ensured a clean, spotless surface.

The lid comes with the ErgoLift mechanism and cannot be opened with one hand. The ErgoLift mechanism lifts the deck as you open the lid, which provides a better typing angle. Additionally, this provides more room beneath the lower panel and thus offers more room for fan breathing. Above the screen, there is an IR face recognition system on the display that ensures data security.

The bottom panel carries the ventilation grills, while the exhaustion of heat takes place between the display compartment and the base. Also, there are two speaker cut-outs on the rear panel for audio. In terms of measurements, the S432 weighs around 3.1lbs (1.4kg) and has a height of about 18mm.

Keyboard

ASUS laptops have earned the credibility for having great laptops and this one is no different. The keys on this ASUS Vivobook are appropriate spaces, have suitable key travel and offer nice clicky feedback. This is a backlit keyboard that you’ll find easy to work on in the night as well.

ScreenPad

The ScreenPad 2.0 is a highlighting feature of ASUS S14 S432 that you’ll find comparatively bigger. This works as a touchpad as well as a second display, with a high-resolution of 2160 x 1080p. The touchpad is smooth and highly responsive which comes with multiple-gesture features. It picks the reading quickly with accuracy and you can switch it to second display using the “F6” key.

Display

ASUS has added a 14-inch diagonal display on this Vivobook that features an FHD screen with IPS technology. The resolution of this screen is 1920 х 1080p and with a 16;9 screen ration, you get the pixel per inch value of 157. The pitch is 0.161 x 0.161mm, whereas the screen becomes Retina at a distance of around 22 inches.

Connectivity

Ports on the Vivobook S14 S432 are modest and scattered on both sides of the chassis. The right houses a 3.5mm audio jack, two USB 3.1 Gen. 1 ports (one Type-C and the other Type-A), the power plug and an HDMI output connector. The left side features a microSD card reader slot and two traditional Type-A 2.0 USB ports.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t have thunderbolt 3 port, which is kind of a let-down. It would have been better if ASUS has turned one of the two USB 2.0 ports into a Thunderbolt 3 USB-C port.

Specs and performance

ASUS has armed the S14 S432 with a 10th generation Core i5 CPU that comes with a massive 1TB PCIe SSD storage, NVIDIA GPU and a fast 8GB memory. This is a power-efficient processor that is based on the Comet Lake generation and offer a clock speed range from 1.6GHz to 4.2GHz.

We found its performance better than its counterparts i.e. Ice Lake i5 and Whiskey Lake i5-8365U when the TDP and cooling were not limited. The NVIDIA GPU on the S432 is GeForce MX250 that has a VARM of 2GB. This is a graphics card ideally suited for light games; however, you can play heavy games on low settings as well.

Overall, we found its performance in the real world to be satisfactory and agreeable. We were able to multitask easily while running more than a dozen Chrome tabs and a few Office files. This is a suitable option for designers, programmers and people who often multitask using split-screen.

Battery life

ASUS Vivobook S432 features a 42Wh battery that delivers a satisfactory battery life on a single charge. We tested its performance by setting the brightness to 120nits and turning on the Windows Better performance settings. We were able to extract 9.5 hours of video playback and 10 hours of browsing. This is a reasonable performance, considering the battery size and hardware combination.

Final verdict

After reviewing its hardware selection and performance, we had to say that ASUS Vivobook S14 S432FL is a real workhorse. Despite its modest battery life, this is a solid laptop for creatives and people who love to own an innovative machine. A decent Core i5 CPU, colossal SSD storage, and a secondary display are some prominent features that make it worth the price.
