From its specs, this ASUS VivoBook 14 seems like a good core i5 laptop with the necessary power. Let’s see how it performs in our performance test, and where its strengths and weaknesses lie.
Design
Surprisingly, ASUS offers the VivoBook S433fa in four different colours. Each one of these colours is flamboyant and brings out a different mood. It came in Indie Black, Dreamy White, Resolute Red and Gaia Green dyes that are lively in appearance. To add more colour, ASUS also send flashy stickers which you can plaster on its lid.
ASUS has given this Vivobook S14 an aluminium alloy chassis with a clean, polished look. However, we find it hard to open it with a single hand. The design is sturdy and robust and can handle everyday knocks and bumps. This is a truly compact laptop that weighs around 3.2lbs (1.45kg) and you can carry it around the campus or in your office.
Keyboard
ASUS VivoBook S14 S433 comes with a rather open keyboard which we found comfy and easy to use. We found its keys responsive, while the key travel is also good and it doesn’t produce much noise. However, it has some drawbacks which we found irritating and disturbing.
First of all, the backlight on this keyboard is poor, as it is mostly spread around the keys. This light leakage in turn makes it hard for the user to read the keys correctly. Secondly, there is an additional function key close to the right arrow, which first-time users may find irksome.
The touchpad on this device is impressively responsive and we found it helpful. It offers smooth scrolling and reads multiple gestures, thanks to the Windows 10. ASUS has also embedded a small fingerprint scanner on the touchpad in the top right corner. This enables the users to get ahold of the system briskly and secures your important data.
Display
ASUS Vivobook S433 features an FHD 14-inch diagonal display that comes with a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080p. The company has also improved its visuals through Tru2Life video technology to improve the display quality. This is a good screen for web browsing and working on the data files.
However, we didn’t find it soothing for graphic design and creative purposes. Although the screen shows lively visuals with bright colours, it fails at certain points. We were unable to get detailed colours under lights and when we used it outdoor under sunlight.
Connectivity
As an affordable Core i5 laptop, this ASUS Vivobook S14 has a reasonable port selection. The devices house ports on both sides, including two traditional USB 2.0 ports and two USB 3.0 (both Type-C and Type-A) ports. In addition, there is a microSD card reader slot for further connectivity.
Performance
As we mentioned earlier, the Vivobook S433 is a good Core i5 laptop with a great combination of specs. It is equipped with a 10th generation quad-core CPU that offers a base speed of 1.6GHz and could provide a maximum clock speed of 4.2GHz. Furthermore, the processor is paired with an 8GB memory that is supported by a 256GB SSD storage.
We evaluated its performance by running a couple of chrome tabs, everyday office programs and light media editing software. ASUS Vivobook S14 S 433 did not show any lags when we were switching between apps and tabs. However, the device showed a little delay when we open the Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop together. As far as gaming is concerned, this is not a laptop to play heavy games. But you can play PUBG in low settings if you want to.
Battery life
ASUS has added a 50WH battery on this Vivobook S14 which is sufficient considering its hardware. It offers a battery life of up to 10 hours on a single charge. This is a good performance from a Core i5 laptop of this class.
Verdict
Overall, the VivoBook S433fa fits the bill and is a good Core i5 laptop that you can get right now. This is a budget ASUS VivoBook S14 laptop that can take care of your casual computing needs. A powerful CPU, high-speed performance, and long battery life are the advantages that make it a good pick.
